PACK LIKE YOU’RE MOVING

Categories: Inspiration

This post is something I wrote and shared a few years ago. I was reminded of it again last week. We were in the process of selling our home and moving. It seemed like nothing was moving. No one was inquiring about our house; everything seemed to be at a standstill. We were sharing this with a good friend of ours and the statement he made to us was, “You need to pack like you’re moving.” He then began to share a story from his life. It was time for us to pack as an act of faith. Even though we didn’t have a buyer for the house or even someone inquiring about the house, we needed to start to pack like we did. So, the very next day we started to pack like we were moving, we started putting things up for sale that we weren’t going to need and we took a step of faith and began to pack like we were moving. It was just a few weeks after that point that we had a buyer for our home.

“What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone?” (James 2:14, NLT)

“Dear friends, do you think you’ll get anywhere in this if you learn all the right words but never do anything? Does merely talking about faith indicate that a person really has it?” (James 2:14, The Message)

As I was driving to work one day that statement came back to mind, “pack like you’re moving,” and I began to think about that. As Christians, as people that proclaim that we are moving forward in the things of God, we need to pack like we are moving. What does that mean? It means that even though your circumstances make look dead, everything may appear to be at a standstill, you need to keep moving forward, by faith, towards the things God has for you.

As Christians we proclaim to live a life full of faith, but as the Scripture above says, “Dear friends, do you think you’ll get anywhere in this if you learn all the right words but never do anything? Does merely talking about faith indicate that a person really has it?” Our faith requires action. I could give you several life examples where we put action to our faith and saw results. God will honor the action you put behind your faith.

So, are you moving forward? Are you determined that you will step into the destiny God has for you? Then go ahead, pack like you’re moving!
