“Early in the morning Joshua and all the Israelites set out from Shittim and went to the Jordan, where they camped before crossing over. 2 After three days the officers went throughout the camp, 3 giving orders to the people: “When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the priests, who are Levites, carrying it, you are to move out from your positions and follow it. 4 Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before. But keep a distance of about a thousand yards between you and the ark; do not go near it.” (Joshua 3:1-4, NIV)
In this passage they were on a mission. They were going somewhere and had a good idea of where they were going but weren’t sure how to get there or what they would face along the way. Their instruction was to follow the Ark of the Covenant. In the time in which this occurred, the ark held the law of God, a reminder of God’s covenant with Israel, a reminder of His promises to them. They didn’t know where they were going so they followed the promise, it was their only option.
Does any of this sound familiar in your own life? Are you on a mission? Do you have a good idea of where you are going but not sure how you’re going to get there? If you answered yes to any of those questions then your answer is to follow the promise. We have a benefit over the people of Joshua’s days. We have a better covenant, it’s called Grace and his name is Jesus. You may be on a road and you know it’s the right road but everything going on around you makes it difficult to focus on where you are going. I believe the Lord’s instruction to you today is to follow the promise. We have a book full of promises called the Bible where you can find a promise that indicates and positive outcome to any negative situation you may be facing in life. Many of you reading this have promises that God has spoken to you directly or a prophetic word spoken to you through someone else. It’s time to dig out your promises again and begin to follow them.
Any time you walk into a promise or follow after a promise it will lead you down roads you’ve never been on. “You are to move out from your positions and follow it. They you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before.” Move out of the position that’s holding you back and simply follow your promise. He will show you which way to go because you’ve never been this way before. It doesn’t matter what’s going on in your life, it doesn’t matter if everything around you is completely opposite of the promise, God cannot break His promises. Pull yourself up, move out from your current position, and begin to follow your promise again! Unfamiliar roads bring unfamiliar circumstances but the promises of God will always prevail.
So, go ahead, dig out those promises again and start following The Promise, He will lead you and show you which way to go. God Bless!
