“The Lord was with Joseph, so he succeeded in everything he did as he served in the home of his Egyptian master. 3 Potiphar noticed this and realized that the Lord was with Joseph, giving him success in everything he did. 4 This pleased Potiphar, so he soon made Joseph his personal attendant. He put him in charge of his entire household and everything he owned. 5 From the day Joseph was put in charge of his master’s household and property, the Lord began to bless Potiphar’s household for Joseph’s sake. All his household affairs ran smoothly, and his crops and livestock flourished. 6 So Potiphar gave Joseph complete administrative responsibility over everything he owned. With Joseph there, he didn’t worry about a thing—except what kind of food to eat!” (Genesis 39:2-6, NLT)
I haven’t written for a while. Life has been very busy with all the holidays, work, family, preaching off and on and teaching in the school of ministry. I always try to send out a word at the beginning of the new year and hadn’t done so yet. To be honest, I didn’t have anything yet! As I was studying last night I was led to the above passage in Genesis and the Lord began to speak some things to me for 2018 and beyond.
Now, before you read the title and pass it off as a pie in the sky word where nothing can ever go wrong, hear me out. The story of Joseph is a very powerful story and there are so many lessons we can take from his life, this is just one of them.
Verse 2 starts out by telling us that Joseph succeeded at everything he did as he served in the home of his Egyptian master. But what’s the key here? The key is the first part of verse 2, “The Lord was with Joseph.” When we begin to realize that the Lord is with us and if He is with us we succeed in all we do I believe 2018 can be a year of great success, success in all you do.
What I want you to see in these passages is the favor of God that rested on Joseph, because the Lord was with him. Potiphar was not a Christian man, he did not see Joseph’s success through spiritual eyes, he saw them through natural eyes. What is the significance to that? As Christians we may look at someone who doesn’t appear successful through natural eyes and see success through spiritual eyes, through what the Lord shows us about that person and the success He has planned for them. Potiphar did not have that ability. He wasn’t speaking out of what he was foreseeing, he was speaking out the success that he physically saw Joseph have. Because of the success he saw he realized the Lord was with him. Joseph became a witness of what God can do in a person’s life. Because of Joseph’s success, Potiphar was blessed. Verse 5 says: “From the day Joseph was put in charge of his master’s household and property, the Lord began to bless Potiphar’s household for Joseph’s sake. All his household affairs ran smoothly, and his crops and livestock flourished.”
In 2018 and beyond make this your daily statement. “The Lord is with me, so I will succeed in everything I do.” As you use this to change your perspective on things watch as success becomes a part of normal, everyday life. Just like Joseph, those who aren’t believers will notice and because of your success, others will want you on their team. As you get this truth, you will find favor and you will find blessing coming from the least expected places.
Because the Lord is with you, 2018 will be a year of great success and promotion. In your marriage, health, finances, career, neighborhood, church, the list goes on. Specifically, even, some of you are going to find your non-Christian employer, just like Potiphar, putting you in charge of many of their affairs because they see the success that follows you and they want in on it. Because of that, it will open the door for you to witness to them the life changing power of God.
2018, a year of success in all you do. Start this with me, the Lord is with me, so I will be successful in all that I do!
